GLENDALE, Ore. -- A man wanted in Lane and Josephine counties barricaded himself in a room in the basement of a house as a Douglas County SWAT team stormed the residence late Tuesday night.

Police took Robert Boise, 30, into custody as he tried to jump out a window to escape gas from a canister.

Boise had active felony warrants for his arrest in Lane County and was wanted in Josephine County for an armed robbery in the city of Grants Pass.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 256 Third Street in Glendale, Ore., after detectives from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety had come to the residence earlier in the day to speak with Robert Boise about the robbery.

While there, detectives located another subject who was wanted in connection to the armed robbery. That person was taken into custody. The detectives learned that Boise was in the residence and that he was possibly in possession of a firearm.

Boise refused to come out of the residence, so the detectives made a request for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Detectives Division responded and continued to attempt to talk to Boise into surrendering. Boise did not respond to the continued attempts.

Police evacuated nearby homes and obtained a search warrant from Douglas County Circuit Court with the assistance of the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

At 9:30 p.m. hours, police served the search warrant at the house, and Boise refused to surrender -- even as the SWAT team announced that they were inside the house. They found Boise barricaded inside a small room in the downstairs portion of the residence.

The SWAT team used gas in an attempt to get Boise to surrender. Boise was overcome by the gas, but rather than surrender, officer said he attempted to escape by jumping through a window.

Officers took him into custody. A loaded firearm was located in the residence.

There were no injuries to law enforcement. Boise suffered minor injuries when he jumped through the window in an effort to escape, the sheriff's office said. He was treated at the scene by Glendale Ambulance.

While at the residence, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Patrol Deputies recognized other pieces of property in the residence they suspected were stolen in recent burglaries and thefts from automobiles in the Glendale area. That investigation is ongoing.

Boise was transported to the Josephine County Jail, where he is being held on the outstanding warrants, as well as for the armed robbery.

More charges are expected to be filed in Douglas County related to the recovered firearm, as well as possession of stolen property.
