Fire rips through abandoned home

EUGENE, Ore. - A fire ripped through an abandoned house Sunday evening in Glenwood, destroying it and causing traffic delays while firefighters battled the blaze.

The fire sparked around 6 p.m. On Franklin Blvd. And Concord Ave. in Glenwood. Crews from both Eugene and Springfield Fire Departments worked on extinguishing the fire.

As of 7 p.m. Sunday evening, Mark Grover, district chief, Eugene Fire Department said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

"It appears that the house has been maybe occupied by transients," said Grover. "There's a fair amount of debris around the house; no electrical hooked up or any other utilities, so we've pretty much disregarded those of being the cause."

Grover said it took crews 20 minutes to knock down the flames.
