COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Police recovered over a hundred pieces of jewelry and collectables, some identified as stolen in reported burglaries in Lane County, after arresting a man police believe was driving recklessly.

Now investigators hope to reunite the items with their proper owners.

The situation started Oct. 21 when Corporal Dean Finnerty attempted to stop a vehicle on suspicion of reckless driving. Police later arrested James Robert Harrell, 48, on suspicion of reckless driving and violating parole.

The vehicle Harrell was driving contained over a hundred pieces of jewelry and collectables, police said. Some of the items have been identified as belonging to victims of burglaries in Lane County, according to police.

On Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., the Cottage Grove Police Department will have a public viewing of the remaining property. Victims of theft or burglaries within the last six months are invited to view the property and help identify whether or not it belongs to them.

Victims will be required to have a police report documenting their theft or burglary before viewing the property.  If property is identified, a receipt for the property will be given to the owner and the property will be retained by the Cottage Grove Police Department until no longer needed for prosecution.

The property includes rings, necklaces, buttons and other small miscellaneous property.
