VENETA, Ore. -- A pedestrian hit by pickup truck Tuesday afternoon has died, according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

Douglas Brentano of Veneta, Ore., was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital at RiverBend, the sheriff said. He died Wednesday.

Brentano was struck by a 1993 Nissan pickup driven by Georgios Karabinis of Eugene around 4:17 p.m. Tuesday on Clear Lake Road near Goodman Road.

Karabinis suffered no injuries during this collision.

The Lane County Sheriffs Office Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision.

The westbound travel lane and shoulder of Clear Lake Road was closed for several hours while deputies conducted their investigation. The sheriff's office said alcohol is not believed to be a factor and that the investigation is ongoing.
