COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- City officials sent out a warning late Tuesday night alerting resident of northeast Cottage Grove that their water could be contaminated with disease-causing organisms.

Residents are not even supposed to brush their teeth with this water. They're being asked to boil their water before drinking it, cooking with it, or even using it to wash dishes.

The area affected is only the northeast section of the city.

City officials say this happened because the recent storm damaged the Row River Valley Water District filtration plant. Non-chlorinated water may have entered the mix.

Drinking this water could make a person sick with symptoms such as stomach cramps. People with weak immune systems, babies, and the elderly may be at increased risk.

The South Lane School District has announced it will not be using water from school fountains tomorrow. School will still be in session but they're asking students to bring bottled water.

The chlorination system is back in operation and they are collecting special samples for the presence or absence of disease-causing organisms.

City officials say they will alert residents when the water is safe to drink.
