Family issues statement; Maples 15, not 16

EUGENE, Ore. -- Jeanette Maples was 15 years old when she died Wednesday night, not 16 as widely reported in error by KVAL News and other media, her grandmother told KVAL News on Friday.
KVAL News regrets the error.
Maples attended Cascade Middle School until 2008, then registered as a home school student with the Lane Educaiton Service District. She died Wednesday night. Prosecutors have charged her mother and step-father with murder in connection with her death.
Family statement read by Mark Rothwell, McAnulty family spokesman:
"We deeply appreciate the efforts of the Lane County Sheriff's Office, the state police and the Lane County District Attorney's office.
"Only someone else who has lost a family member can begin to comprehend our family's pain and sorrow. Our grief is deepened by the circumstances that surround Jeanette's death.
"During this difficult time, we please ask that the public and the press to respect the privacy of our family.
"We'd like to thank everyone for their sympathy and prayers and ask that everyone celebrate the life of Jeanette Marie Maples.
"Thank you, the McAnulty family."
