Free and low cost pet care for struggling families

EUGENE, Ore. - Two local non-profits teamed up to establish a new clinic in Eugene that will provide low-cost care for animals.

Community Veterinary Center and Pro-Bone-O joined forces to launch a new no/low-cost full service veterinary clinic serving clients with incomes below poverty level and homeless.

The announcement was made at the December Pro-Bone-O clinic for the animals of homeless people. PBO is a non-profit organization which has been holding veterinary clinics for homeless clients for over 10 years in the laundry room of St. Vincent's Lindholm Service Center.
Clinics are held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month and staffed by volunteers, including local veterinarians and veterinary students from OSU.

St. Vincent de Paul donated the land next door to its Lindholm Center on Highway 99 to house the new clinic.

The Pro-Bone-O president said they want to make sure no animal has to suffer because an owner can’t pay for veterinarian care costs.

“Animals are a source of love, affection and companionship and family. And they're just irreplaceable and once you've had an animal in your life it becomes part of your family,” said Anne Baden.

Baden said the new clinic is expected to open in 2010.
