Grenade found in donated items at Goodwill
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A World War II-era pineapple grenade was found Monday at the Goodwill store on Coffee Road near Rosedale Highway.
Police say workers came across the weapon when they were sorting through a box of donations.
The police bomb squad was called to the store and immediately evacuated the building. They determined the device was non-explosive, but it was a real grenade.
"People don't realize that it's in a box of stuff that they have in their garage, or they just don't realize the significance of a grenade," Sgt. Mary DeGeare said.
Police say that grenades are illegal to have. If you find one, call police, and they will dispose of it for you.
