2010: BIG year expected for weddings
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon Wedding Showcase kicked off this weekend at the Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene. Showcase owner Judy Van Valkenberg said brides-to-be saved up during the recession for weddings in 2010.
“There were quite a few gals that had originally planned on getting married last year," Van Valkenberg said. "Due to the economy being a little nerve racking to all of us they've decided to wait and get married this year."
She said nearly 400 brides visited the showcase Saturday. And according to the Wedding Research Group, 2010 is expected to be a big year for weddings. Even on a tighter budget, brides are still finding ways to make their wedding plans grand.
“A lot of our exhibitors have specials that they only do at the show, or they give you special discounts," Van Valkenberg said. "And we have great contests where you can win things."
Van Valkenberg said exhibitors have helped brides find ways to coordinate their special day while cutting costs. She gave these few tips to budget a wedding:
- Splurge on items you can’t go without and cut costs on others.
- Cut back on costly decorations like centerpieces and only place them on special tables.
- Instead of serving a full-course sit-down dinner, try serving only hors d'oeuvres or having a potluck.
