Stolen SUV found floating in the Clackamas River
CARVER, Ore. - A stolen SUV ended up in the Clackamas River and investigators are trying to figure out who is responsible.
A fisherman spotted the submerged vehicle just after 7 a.m. It was floating downstream about 100 yards from the Carver Bridge.
Numerous agencies responded, including search and rescue teams and divers. From a marine boat, a pole camera was used to see if anyone was inside (it was empty) and to get the license plate number.
It turned out that the SUV, a 2001 Ford Excursion, had been reported stolen. It was taken overnight from an address on Southeast Harmony Road in Clackamas.
The SUV remains in the river and is marked with a buoy and crime scene tape. Police say it does not pose a navigational hazard and will stay there while the owner works out the removal details with the insurance company.
