Record crowd races at Truffle Shuffle
EUGENE, Ore. -- How do you get thousands of people to run a race? Tempt them with chocolate at the finish line, of course. It worked for Committed Partners for Youth. A record 2,000 people signed up for the 14th Annual Truffle Shuffle on Sunday at Alton Baker Park. Executive Director Susie Walsh said they hoped to raise $30,000.
"Every penny goes to our mentors and kids, to finding mentors," said Walsh. "We need men to come out and volunteer. We have a waiting list of about 30 boys. A lot of this money is going to be used for outreach to find mentors."
The one hiccup of the day came at the end of the two-mile race, where there was quite literally a traffic jam. A stuck car eventually was able to move on, and participants finished the race.
Organizers said the Truffle Shuffle is the largest charity road race in the Eugene-Springfield area.
