EUGENE, Ore. -- Sources have confirmed to KVAL Sports that University of Oregon's head basketball coach, Ernie Kent, has already been fired.
According to the source, Kent's dismissal takes effect after the basketball team has finished its season, whenever that may be.
The source also told KVAL Sports that Kent was dismissed after meeting with Oregon Athletic Director Mike Bellotti the Monday following the Ducks home losses to California and Stanford. In addition, Kent's entire staff will be replaced, with the possible exception of assistant Kenny Payne.
Prior to the regular season finale at McArthur Court, Kent is 233 to 172 in 13 seasons with the Ducks. He also has taken Oregon to five NCAA tournament appearances, making it to the Elite Eight twice.
The past two seasons have been classified as "a big disappointment" for the team. With the scheduled opening of the new Matt Knight Arena, Oregon won 8 games and lost 23 in the 2008 to 2009 season. The team has gone 14 wins to 15 losses so far this season.
