EUGENE, Ore. - Arson is strongly suspected in a fire that did heavy damage to part of a Eugene church Saturday night. Eugene fire units were called to the Faith Center at 1410 West 13Th.  The first call to 911 was made at 7:18 pm Saturday. 25 firefighters worked to confine the blaze to a modular building that houses offices for the church. The main sanctuary was not damaged.

District Chief Randy DeWitt told KVAL News at the scene, "It looks like they took some material on site and started a fire up against the building.  It got inside to the structure, which is a series of offices for the church--then took off from there inside the structure."

A total damage estimate was not available Saturday at the scene, but DeWitt says the interior of the modular building was pretty much a total loss.

The District Chief said the fire was controlled in about 20 minutes. Police are investigating and looking for suspects, but no one has been arrested.

Church officials say Sunday services are not affected by the fire.
