Wanted man has 'Combative for God' tattoo
PORTLAND, Ore. - A 42-year-old man accused of impersonating a police officer and kidnapping two women who had just left a concert has a distinctive tattoo, police say.
Paul Winklebleck is wanted in connection with last week's kidnapping of two women outside the Roseland Theatre at Southwest 2nd and Ash.
New information from police is that he has a tattoo on the back of his neck and upper portion of his back that says 'Combative for God.' The word 'combative' may be visible above a shirt line.
The Kidnapping
According to police, the women were walking to their car when a man identifying himself as a Portland Police Bureau cop approached them and offered to help because he thought they might be drunk. He told the women he was a "spotter" for the bureau and was there to get the women safely home so they would not be stopped and arrested for drunken driving.
At first, both women declined the offer and got into their car, but the man was able to convince them to go with him. Police say he then drove them south on Interstate 5, pulled out a knife and forced one of them to take several pills. He eventually took the Detroit Lake exit in Salem and stopped on a gravel road near the freeway.
At that time, the women tried to escape but the man threatened them with the knife and physically assaulted one of them. One of them was eventually able to get away and went for help at a nearby residence. The other woman later escaped and hid nearby while the man fled the area in the vehicle.
The Suspect
The prime suspect is Paul Evans Winklebleck, a registered sex offender wanted for third-degree sex abuse and who had a warrant out on his head for an outstanding probation violation.
Winklebeck is described as a stocky man who is about 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He has thick, short, reddish brown hair and a short, thick goatee and mustache. He was wearing a camouflage shirt or jacket with a hat that matched.
Winklebleck also uses the last names of Sullivan and Rose.
Suspect's Vehicle
Police say the suspect may be driving a dark green GMC Sonoma pickup with Oregon license plate 289 EPF.
