Fighting meth in Lane County
The federal government could soon be helping Lane County fight methamphetamine. The U.S. House of Representatives has approved House Resolution 3093. That would give half a million dollars to agencies in Lane County and the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Task Force.
A lot of the money would go toward programs for treatment. "Oregon has been dealing with methamphetamine for years, and we are very much on top of what we need to do to stop meth and its destructiveness in our community," says Lucy Zammarelli with the Willamette Family Treatment Center.
In 2004, more than two thousand adults in Lane County were treated for methamphetamine addiction. The legislation still has to go through the senate before going to President Bush's desk for his signature.
