EUGENE, Ore. -- Better than a third of Lane County registered voters cast ballots in the Tuesday, May 18, Oregon primary election.
The extension "will conclude our 4-H, Master Gardener, Master Food Preserver, Compost Specialist, Extension Study Group and Climate Master programming no later than Labor Day weekend,” the release said.
In other Lane County races, Jerry Rust led Jay Bozievich in the West Lane County Commissioner race in late returns Tuesday. But Rust appeared to be shy of the 50 percent mark necessary to avoid a November election against Bozievich.
Springfield Mayor Sid Leiken moved a step closer to the Lane County Commission after switching to that race from the Fourth Congressional race to be the GOP candidate against Democrat Peter DeFazio. Leiken will likely face Patt Riggs-Henson on the November ballot.
Democrat John Kitzhaber will face Republican Chris Dudley on the November ballot. Kitzhaber posted a wider margin of victory over his chief rival, Bill Bradbury, than Dudley achieved over Allen Alley and John Lim. Bill Sizemore also threw his hat in the ring; he ran as the Republican candidate when Kitzhaber ran for re-election after his first term as governor.
