Police: Teen in critical condition after resisting arrest

SALEM, Ore. - A state trooper used a Taser to shock a 16-year-old boy who resisted arrested Wednesday morning, and the boy lost consciousness as he continued to struggle with officers, Oregon State Police said.

A medic from the Oregon State Police SWAT team started emergency medical care on the teen until paramedics arrived and took him to Salem Hospital by ambulance. State police said the boy is to be transferred to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland and is reported in critical condition.

The boy was not a resident of the house where police served multiple search warrants at 6 a.m. Wednesday in the Salem area as part of a multi-agency investigation.

Upon entry to the home, Oregon State Police SWAT team members encountered the teen, who refused to comply with their commands and actively resisted their efforts to take him into custody.

A trooper shocked the teen with a Taser, but the boy continued to physically resist efforts to take him into custody before losing consciousness, police said.

OSP asked the Salem Police Department, with the assistance of the Marion County District Attorney's Office, investigate the incident.

An adult male and adult female were also at the residence. The adult male was arrested without incident.
