EUGENE, Ore. - A South Eugene private school is expanding its reach - all the way to China.
By next summer, students from China could be in Eugene to study English at Oak Hill School.
Oak Hill students, in turn, will go to a school in the city of Chungchoon to study mandarin, the main Chinese dialect.
It's a language and cultural studies program from the Chinese called "Confucius Classrooms."
"It's a really big deal for Oak Hill and for the community and nationally. There are only 10 schools, independent schools in the country and 80 public schools that are currently Confucius Classrooms," said Oak Hill Headmaster Elliott Grey.
Grey and other Oak Hill officials just returned from a nine day trip to China to finalize the deal.
Oak Hill has offered Mandarin Chinese language classes to elementary students since 2006 and recently expanded the curriculum to its middle school grades.
