KVAL News turned the medical records over to Oregon Medical Group for secure disposal

EUGENE, Ore. - The medical records of at least two people appear to have been inadvertantly sent to a South Eugene man's personal fax machine.

A man who asked not to be identified provide two medical records to KVAL News that he said came in over his fax machine from Oregon Medical Group. He claimed to have received dozens more over the course of 10 years.

KVAL News turned the records over to Oregon Medical Group for proper disposal.

"Oregon Medical Group discovered a patient record was inadvertently sent to an unintended recipient," the healthcare provider later said in a statement. "Upon learning of this error, OMG's lawfully designated HIPAA privacy officer contacted the unintended recipient."

OMG said maintaining private health information is a top priority and that they have a comprehensive program with numerous protocals in place to prevent an accidental disclosure like this from happening.
