Albany hosts the West's largest Veterans Day parade Saturday

ALBANY, Ore. - With over 200 entries and as many as 40,000 spectators, Albany hosts the largest Veterans Day parade west of the Mississippi. This year's parade is Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m.

The parade features veterans, marching units, military vehicles and marching bands.

The parade starts at the overpass on Pacific Highway, then right on Lyons, left on 2nd to Ferry St., left to 4th, ending at the Linn County courthouse at 300 3rd Ave. SW.

Events start Friday with the Veteran of the Year Banquet at 7 p.m. at American Legion Santiam Post # 51, 148 Main St., in Lebanon. Tickets are $22.50 per person. Social Hour begins at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the Optimists Pancake Breakfast starts the day from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the West Albany High School Cafeteria.

Go early - and save some room for the Eagles Club Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 127 Broadalbin St. NW

A Veterans Day Memorial Service starts at 8:30 a.m. at Timber Linn Park.

The parade starts at 11 with grand marshal Joseph "Papa" Novak.
