EUGENE, Ore. -- After 34 years, the Arc of Lane County senior holiday dinner has become much more than a meal.
Hundreds of seniors have made it part of their tradition to visit the Eugene Hilton for the annual holiday festivities on Christmas day.
The dinner, organized by the Lane County Human Services Commission, gave guests a chance to dance, feast and enjoy the company of their friends on Tuesday.
Sydney Shook, the coordinator for the holiday dinner, said that she loves giving something special to the hundreds of attendees.
“Feeling really special, having friendships and making those connections and having people cater to them. People are serving them and making them feel part of this special day,” said Shook.
Bonnie Nielsen attended the dinner with her daughter-in-law, making for the fourth year she has come to the holiday dinner.
“I love the cranberry sauce. At other dinners we forgot the cranberry sauce and this time we have it,” said Bonnie Nielson.
Nielson is not alone in making the dinner part of her holiday routine. Dave Barklow told KVAL News that he looks forward to the annual get-together.
“It is an honor to be here … with the senior activities a lot of us don't see each other until the next year,” Barklow said.
