PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A former armored car driver has pleaded guilty to his role in a series of inside jobs that netted his family almost $4 million.

The Oregonian newspaper reports that 64-year-old Archie Cabello was set for trial Monday when he decided to dismiss his court-appointed attorney and plead guilty to eight of 51 criminal charges.

Prosecutors accused Cabello of staging two armored car heists in Milwaukee, Wis., in the 1990s with help from relatives.

Then, in 2005, Cabello drove his armored car to a spot in southeast Portland, where he off-loaded $3 million to his son, Vincent.

Vincent Cabello and Cabello's wife, Marian, pleaded guilty earlier this year to their roles in the heists.

Cabello is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11.
