Autopsy: Toddler drowned after falling in washing machine

HILLSBORO, Ore. – A toddler who fell into a working washing machine died from drowning, an autopsy confirmed.

Mike Rouches with the Hillsboro Police Department said that 18-month-old Oliver Hebb also had some injuries from the machine’s agitator.

Rouches said there were no signs of any criminal behavior.

The boy’s mother was reading a magazine in the living room of the family’s single-story home, Rouches said. She was no more than 30 seconds away from the machine when Oliver climbed up on an adjacent tub and fell into the machine.

Oliver was rushed to Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro and later to Oregon Health and Science University. However, doctors were not able to save him and Saturday he was taken off life support.

Family friends told KATU that Oliver liked to climb on things and that this was a tragic accident.
