Out of ban on Valentine's Day cards and candy, a hero is born
EUGENE, Ore. - Decked out in red, white and pink, a caped crusader of sorts set out to make a difference in the lives of some kids Thursday.
"My senses picked up that there were some disheartened children here today," Captain Valentine said.
A local dad, the Captain said he couldn't bear the thought of McCornack Elementary School banning Valentine's Day cards and candy.
"Two days ago I saw the post about no Valentine's here," he told KVAL News. "Yesterday I threw the outfit together, today I went and got the poster board."
Decked out in his superhero gear, he greeted kids from across the street as they left school on Thursday.
He said the response was all positive, and some kids even called him their hero.
"I'm just a concerned parent that thinks the kids should have something uplifting in a world that seems to be always compromising and you get bad news, this is a good news day," he said.
Many parents and kids stopped to snap a picture with Captain Valentine before heading home for the day.
And the school's principal approached him about what he was doing.
"She was cordial," he said. "She just wanted to know why I was here, I think we had a good rapport. She's over the children, it's her responsibility and stewardship to find out who is this guy in white and red parked outside the school, it's concerning the kids. So we had a good rapport with each other, shook hands and it was fine."
He said his one wish was to make the kids smile, show them someone cares and share the spirit of Valentine's Day.
"Not saving the world, just spreading smiles," Captain Valentine said. "It doesn't cost a thing. Just smile and wave, Happy Valentine's Day!"
I wish folks were able to have access to T.K.'s history.
This issue is the tip of the ice berg when it comes to T.K.'s behavior.
It is well known to teachers who continue to work for her and those who have previously worked for her...
T.K. has
1.Intimidated teacher(s) to resign.
2.Trespassed good willing people, even ex-teacher's from ever coming on school property.
3.I believe, but am not able to cofirm, that only one male teacher still works for her.
4.Teachers who have not or were not evualated according to District policy.
5.Wrote her own criteria for teacher evaluation which was not approved by the Distrcit.
6.There is much more....I will stop there.
It is sad that no-one will step up and speak. Yet, not doing so is understandle...folks who have experienced her wrath, are afraid to do so and/or want no part of her potential retrubution.
Those who supervise her, are aware of her track record, turn turn a blind eye...even good O'l Shelly B.
Perhaps this post can start a much needed conversation about T.K.
So, "let's do what is best for the children."
Great manta huh?

What a man!! Captain Valentine spread the true spirit of love, a hero!!
What a great story! Thank you for doing that for the kids. The principle on the other hand has the typical world view of most Progressives. They use their power and influence to take away rights, holidays and traditions in order to make everyone feel welcome while ignoring the heritage of Americans. I travel to experience different cultures and customs and would never expect a host country to change so as not to offend me. Celebrate our customs don't strip them away!
I think this man put it perfectly when he talked about America being a melting pot. Opposed to allowing the opportunity for kids, parents and faculty to come together and allow those who wish to not participate to simply bow out, Mrs. Katsuda would rather do an all out ban drawing much un-needed negative attention to those select few families and students. If it is against a childs religious beliefs then that is the (childs) parents responsibility to explain to them (their child) why they don't participate. It is something they are going to have to understand, and possibly explain, for many years if they choose to continue in that belief. Cost is a very weak excuse. There is no dollar amount set (though they could easily set a limit) on what could be spent on a Valentine. Dollar tree sells valentines, and even if a family can't afford those paper and crayons are easily available. McCornack is constantly holding drives to help those less fortunate, why couldn't they hold one to help families that couldn't afford a pack of Valentine cards? This was a complete B.S. cop-out. I certainly hope the district takes serious note about this and consider reviewing their stance.
Nice to see someone standing up for common sense. Maybe we ought to hire this guy to be the Principal instead of the current one.
