Hit-and-run driver kills woman taking trash to curb
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - A woman died while taking out her garbage Monday afternoon when a driver crossed the oncoming traffic lane, hit her and drove off, police said.
State police officials said that Ramona Berg, 60 of Cottage Grove, died Monday, when at around 3 p.m. a Buick went off the road and hit her while she was taking her trash to the curb on London Road.
Police said that the driver, later identified Diana L. Smith, 63 of Cottage Grove, was headed south on London Road near Cottage Grove Lake when she crossed the northbound lane, went into the grassy shoulder and struck Berg while she was standing by her mailbox.
Officials said that Smith initially stopped and tried to revive Berg; but when she couldn't, she drove off.
After a brief investigation, state police said they found the suspect vehicle at a home 5 miles down the road. Officials said that officers arrested Smith at her home Monday evening.
Detectives said that they are still investigating the crash.

No arrest according to the Sentinal paper I read today, she is STILL allowed to drive, the cops took her car!!!!! WTF SERIOUSLY?????

Was the driver drunk? How could she be so careless and run someone over if she was sober...makes no sense. Very sad.Â
Has my very sad for both of these women. Has me very worried for Postal Delivery personnel too. Not only do they have to worry about pit bulls, and stray bullets. Now add drivers txting, or drunken, or just plain being bad drivers.

Tried to revive her or tried to make sure she was dead and wouldn't talk about who hit her?
 @Stooge Newton  trying to "revive" someone when you are an amateur at best is just as bad as hitting someone in the first place.
Very sad incident.I knew something was up. I had a CG cop pass me on 10th st. at about 60 mph. Took her garbage to the curb? I used to live out there. There was no trash service.Â
