Car crushed between big rig and garbage truck
DUNDEE, Ore. - A semi truck hit a sedan from behind, crushing the car between the big rig and a garbage truck, Oregon State Police said.
The crash injured all three people in the car, including a woman who was trapped in the wreckage for 30 minutes. She was rushed from the crash scene to a Portland hospital by air ambulance.
Oregon State Police said the crash happened around 11: 20 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 99 south of Dundee.
A garbage truck was stopped and straddling the fog line collecting garbage from a nearby home.
A 2005 Scio Tc driven by Abelard Lucero, 32, of Vancouver, Washington, stopped behind the truck and was hit from behind by a 1991 Kenworth truck driven by Mark Folsom, 53, of Portland.
The impact pushed the Scion into the back of the garbage truck, police said.
Lucero and his front passenger, 22-year-old Roxanne Wheeler of Vancouver, were taken by ambulance to Providence Newberg Medical Center with minor injuries.
An as yet unidentified passenger in the rear seat was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters from Newberg and Dundee got her out of the car and transferred her to LifeFlight for a flight to a Portland hospital.
The crash closed the highway for 3 hours. The investigation is not yet complete, police said.
I hope they are all ok. Its freak accidents like this that make me appreciate my SUV.Â
@ntk0716Â ---your Suv would have become a cheese ball too I am afraid, if squashed between a Kentworth and a garbage truck. but, it would fair better than that sedan even with her airbags deployed.
Gosh! This brings back nightmarish memories of sports cars I saw on I-5 squashed between 2 semi's.
I hope they are all OK too. Â
