Central Point man dies in mountain bike crash

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say an Oregon Saturday man has died after crashing his mountain bike near Central Point.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says 54-year-old Craig Steven Lyle of Central Point was found lying near his bike in the middle of a dirt road. A couple who was in the area told authorities they say Lyle pass them at a high rate of speed and later found him on the road nearby.

Investigators believe Lyle may have lost control of his bike or swerved to avoid an obstacle. Lyle was wearing a helmet and riding gear.

Lyle's crash occurred on Old Military Road, which leads to the Johns Peak area that's popular with mountain bikers.
