Eagles owner mispronounces 'Oregon'
EUGENE, Ore. - Chip Kelly may have struggled with his decision to leave the Ducks, but not as badly as Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie struggled with the pronunciation of Oregon at a press conference Thursday in Philadelphia.
"We were told he was either going to come to the Philadelphia Eagle's or go back to the University of Oregon," Lurie said, pronouncing the name of the state "Or-ah-gone."
Kelly - who later correctly pronounced the name of the state where he still owns real estate - sat stoic as his new boss did it again.
"The next day we learned that he was probably going to go back to the University of Or-ah-Gone," Lurie said.
One really couldn't expect Kelly to interupt, "It's pronounced Orygun."
So you can't blame the Duck fans who are sad to see Kelly go quoting the Dude from "The Big Lebowski," either.
"I hate the #@?!ing Eagles, man!"
As an ex-californicator, I wilfully mispronounce Oregon(Orgun) as Ore "GONE" just because the state has never offered me any gold rush for jobs or prosperity. But, the food banks are nice.
I also wilfully mispronounce UofO as "UFO", because of all of their space cadet libral arts courses that leave graduates jobless and in debt with student loans that abduct their pocket book for life. Talk about the tuition anal probe! I think The "O" symbol secretly stands for Orion greys.
Quit making fun of people. We can't all read the same, talk the same, speak the same, etc. Bully!!!
Knowing how to pronounce the States in this country, alludes to one's level of education. Lurie's not as educated as he should be.Â
@Deedledeeds ---actually, the original pronunciation thought to be derived from "Ouaricon-sint" Fr. OR "Ouragon" from a river so named by Native Americans means that Lurie's pronunciation is not so inaccurate & is not so atypical for many educated East Coasters. All I know for certain, is that I hate that show: JOYZEE SHUOOZ! And quite a few of the locals do too.
