The End of an Era: City Hall's last working session
EUGENE, Ore. -- On Wednesday, City Council had their last working session meeting at the McNutt Room at City Hall in Downtown Eugene.
"If these walls could talk, they could tell you a lot about Oregon, a lot about Eugene and a lot about who we are as a community," said Mayor Kitty Piercy.
Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy said current City Hall, which is located on East Eighth Avenue between Pearl and High Streets, is no longer safe.
"The building is not seismically safe and it's taking off steam and new energy forms need to be used," said Piercy. "It's run down on the outside." There is no word on what will happen to the current City Hall.
It's all part of a gradual move-out of the current City Hall. Over the last few years, city departments including the municiple court and human resources offices have emptied to different areas around Eugene.
Piercy said they will either re-build City Hall, or find a new location. No plans have been announced yet.
After City Council's summer recess, meetings and working sessions will resume September 10. City Council will temporarily hold meetings across the street at the Lane County Public Service Building in Harris Hall. Piercy says they will be renting this space from the county.

Piercy says they will be renting this space from the county." Right. The OTHER building which only this week was featured in the Red Guard as being 'overdue for replacement' at taxpayer expense.  Too many public officials seem to measure their success in how many structures have a plaque on them with their name prominently affixed. Â
They just want a fancy new building. So, they let the old one become an paint peeling eyesore.Â
If those walls could talk? If those walls could do anything they should explode from all of the theft of taxpayers money to fund occupy.
