City attorney jailed on assault charge

EUGENE, Ore. - State police jailed the City Attorney for Cottage Grove on one count of fourth degree assault Thursday.

Sean David Kelly, 44, of Eugene met with Oregon State Police detectives at the Lane County Jail around 6 p.m. to turn himself in, police said.

The charges stem from a state police investigation in an alleged assault in Cottage Grove on Wednesday.

A 40-year-old female acquaintance of Kelly's called 911 on Wednesday. Cottage Grove Police took the initial report before asking state police to take over the investigation.

After initially declining treatment, the victim reportedly did seek a medical evaluation Thursday morning, state police said.
