Coast Guard rescues stranded surfers
CANNON BEACH, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued two surfers trapped in a cove north of Cannon Beach on Monday afternoon.
Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue called the Coast Guard at 1:35 p.m. to report the two surfers were trapped in a small cove at the north end of Indian Beach at Ecola State Park.
The Coast Guard diverted an already airborne MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 1:45 p.m. and located the surfers on a rocky outcropping on the north side of the cove.
The helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer from a hover approximately 125 feet above the rock and successfully hoisted both surfers to safety.
The helicopter crew then returned the surfers to Indian Beach.
No injuries were reported, the Coast Guard said.
