Coca-Closing? Jobs at Coke plant could move north
EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Coca-cola plant could be moving some of their operations further north, a spokesperson in Portland said Friday.
The move would be an effort to consolidate their Eugene distribution operations to their production center in Wilsonville, Ore.
Anna Aladzer at Coca Cola said that the consolidation is still in the proposal stages and the company hasn't made a final decision or set a timeline for the move.
Aladzer said that the proposal came about in-part because of the lack of space at their Chad Drive location.
The move would put 24 warehouse drivers out of work, while 21 new positions would be created in Wilsonville.
If it the proposal is finalized, officials said that the Chad Drive location would close and move the sales operations to a different Eugene location.
Yet another casualty of the unfriendly business atmosphere of Eugene? Now the local bureaurats will tax the remaining businesses ever more until they too leave. Just kill all the geese that lay golden eggs until our city is a hollowed out ghost town why don't you.Â
ugh!
yeah kitty good job keep depleting the tax base
Eugene is not business friendly, low pay too. Â Outside of the beauty, there are few benefits to living here anymore.
Who's next?
@BakerOregon it happened in inner cities in the 60's.  Big companies moving out of the city and largely out of country.  The tax base moves out with the jobs. Schools, public safety etc. suffer.  As far as Coke goes they should just diversify the plant and sell something healthy, they have the funds.  But they have stockholders to answer to not the locals.
@drinkmorewater Coke sales soda. They are not going to start selling juice to save a warehouse in a small town.
@drinkmorewater  @BakerOregon Coke will move out and someone will negotiate a ten year tax exemption to move in!
@smokysky  @drinkmorewater  @BakerOregon Probably another boiler room call center.
@BakerOregon Better question is who's left.  Eugene should be a great place to work and live, steadily gone downhill for the last decade.
