BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Idaho Fish and Game has confirmed that campers who found a lost puppy outside of Ketchum back in May found an actual wolf.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says the puppy was taken to a local veterinarian who thought the puppy might actually be a wolf pup.

Zoo officials are compiling a list of facilities accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that would be suitable for the pup.

The pup is gaining weight and his health is improving.

Fish and Game says it spent the next few days searching for a wolf pack in the area to return the pup, but couldn't find any sign of one.

Fish and Game says took a blood sample from the pup. Biologists earlier this year said that there are between 500-600 wolves roaming throughout the state.

Defenders of Wildlife has put some video of the pup on YouTube. You can watch it below.
