Coos Bay Fire Dept.: House fire started on front porch

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A house in downtown Coos Bay was damaged after a Wednesday morning fire, the Coos Bay Fire Department said.

Officials say that just after 7:00 am, fire crews were called to a reported fire at 1421 West Anderson Avenue.

Authorities say the firefighters found a fire burning on the front porch of the house.

A next door neighbor heard the sound of breaking glass and he went outside his home to investigate, and that's when officials say he discovered the fire.

The neighbor sprayed water on the fire until crews arrived.

Authorities say the home is owned by Nick & Jill Edwards of Coos Bay, and the occupants were identified as Joshua Gonzales and Samantha McCullough.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage to the front porch and entryway, and the interior of the home suffered some minor smoke damage.

The fire also spread into the attic area, but it was quickly extinguished.

Officials say the fire started on the front porch, but an exact cause has not been determined.

An investigation is being conducted by the Coos Bay Fire Department and the Coos Bay Police Department.

The Coos Bay Fire Department estimates the fire damage to the structure to be $20,000. No damage of the occupant’s contents were reported.

The owners of the structure have insurance on the building.
