COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- Officials say a 64-year-old man riding a motorcycle on Hwy 101 was killed in an accident on Sunday afternoon, when he left his lane and struck a pickup.

Coos County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Bandon Fire and Rescue and Bay Cities Ambulance, responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pickup towing a trailer and a motorcycle at milepost 5.6 on West Beaver Hill Road, between Charleston and Bandon, Ore.

When crews arrived, they say they found Derrill Dickerson, 64, of Emery, South Dakota, deceased at the scene.

Authorities say Dickerson was riding his Yamaha motorcycle, traveling with a friend towards Charleston, when he failed to negotiate a curve and traveled head-on into a 1998 Ford pickup truck, being driven by Manuel Calvillo, 45, of Roseburg.

No one in the pickup was injured, and Dickerson's traveling companion was not involved in the accident.

The Coos County Crash Team was activated to assist in the investigation, and the roadway had to be closed for several hours for the investigation.

Officials say alcohol does not appear to be involved and the investigation is still continuing.
