MONMOUTH, Ore. - A Corvallis woman suffered serious injuries when her car crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a truck pulled double trailers loaded with lumber early Thursday morning.

The crash set the truck on fire.

Medics pulled the driver of the car - 29-year-old Hyatt Walberg of Corvallis - from the wreckage and rushed her Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

The driver of the truck - 65-year-old Dwaine Merchant of Tillamook - was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Walberg's Mazda MX6 crossed the centerline on Highway 99 south of Monmouth around 6:33 a.m., state police said.

The Mazda hit the side of Merchant's oncoming Freightliner truck, then hit the first of two trailers loaded with lumber.

The crash tore a diesel tank off the truck, spilling fuel on the road.

The truck caught fire and burned to the ground, police said. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading.
