BROOKS, Ore. – Keizer police officers arrested a man who they said was driving under the influence when he crashed into a power pole on Highway 99E in Brooks and drove away early Saturday morning.
The highway was closed for several hours due to the downed power pole.
Benjamin C. Burns, 31, of Keizer, crashed his pickup truck into a ditch and the power pole around 2:20 a.m. and drove away from the scene, according to state police.
Keizer police officers spotted Burns’ truck and chased him to an area near his Keizer home, where they arrested him. Burns faces charges including felony attempt to elude, DUII and misdemeanor hit and run. He was taken to a Marion County Jail.
Power company workers repaired the damaged pole and affected power lines. The highway was reopened before 8 a.m.
