OSP: Crash on Jasper Road caused by drunk driver

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- State polcie say a man who caused an injury crash near Springfield was arrested for driving drunk.

Authorities say that on Friday at about 4:00 p.m., a 2004 Dodge pickup being driven by Jason Gibbs, 29, of Springfield, was westbound on Jasper Road in the 36000 Block, when he tried to pass another car on a corner.

The driver of that car was Carisa Steele, 20, of Lowell, authorities say.

Officials say another vehicle was coming in opposite direction, and the pickup crashed into Steele's car.

The pickup rolled and came to a stop in the middle of Jasper Road. The car went off the roadway and collided with a power pole.

A passenger in the Dodge pickup, Ryan Mullins, 18, of Cottage Grove, was ejected during the crash.

Mullins was transported by ground ambulance to Sacred Heart at RiverBend with critical injuries.

Gibbs and Steele were both transported by ground ambulance to Sacred Heart at RiverBend with minor injuries.

Authorities say Gibbs and Steele were wearing safety belts and Mullins was not.

Troopers say Gibbs was arrested at the hospital, where he was charged with DUII, two counts of Assault III, Reckless Driving, and 2 counts of Reckless Endangering.
