EUGENE, Ore. - A police officer en route to assist fellow officers with a traffic stop collided with a motorcyclist Thursday afternoon, injuring the rider.
The Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation Team is investigating the crash since it involved a police vehicle involved in response mode, the police department said. Their findings will be submitted to the district attorney for review.
The crash happened at 1:08 p.m.
Eugene Police Officer Michael Klews, 36, was northbound on River Road, responding to provide backup to two other officers at a traffic stop with a potential armed subject.
Donald Ray McCullough, 73, of Eugene was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson Road King westbound on River Avenue, turning south onto River Road, when the collision occurred.
The motorcyclist was treated at the scene and released, police said. The officer was uninjured.
Police expected River Road northbound to be down to one lane until 5 p.m. due to the investigation.
