Crews respond to a motorcycle crash, find gas leak
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Crews responding to a motorcycle crash in Springfield on Tuesday afternoon discovered an open gas valve feet from the crash scene, police officials said.
Police said that a man crashed his motorcycle at around 2:50 P.M. Tuesday. The crash happened just east of the intersection of Jasper Road and Parkway in Springfield.
Police said that the motorcyclist was not injured, however he crashed his bike near a natural gas valve. Responding workers smelled the gas and immediately closed down the area.
Officials said they are still unsure as to what caused the leak, classified as a "medium gas leak".
Crews closed down the intersection for nearly 45 minutes before eventually reopening one lane between Jasper and Lowell.
