Cyclist hit by car on Chambers, police seek witnesses

EUGENE, Ore. -- A bicyclist was hit by a car while riding the wrong way on Chambers Street Wednesday afternoon, and police are looking for witnesses who can help with their crash investigation.

Officials with Eugene Police said the crash happened at around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. 

Police said 25-year-old Michael Wayne Tackman of Eugene was riding his bike south against the traffic along Chambers St. when he was hit by a white Dodge Intrepid turning from W 5th Street into the northbound lane of Chambers.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. He wasn't wearing a helmet when he was hit.

Tackman is listed in serious condition Thursday morning.

Police identified the driver as 44-year-old Brian James Thomas of Eugene.
