Cyclist hit, killed riding near Elmira

ELMIRA, Ore. - A bicyclist died when he turned left across a road to enter a driveway and got hit from behind by a pickup pulling a horse trailer, state police said.

This was the second fatal crash in Oregon this year involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Warthen Road.

Sandra L. Faulhaber, 63, of Elmira was eastbound when a cyclist in front of her attempted to turn left into a private driveway, Oregon State Police said.

Faulhaber tried to avoid the cyclist but struck him from behind, police said.

The cyclist, 57-year-old James Thomas Moody of Elmira, was flown by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, where he died later from his injuries.

Moody was wearing a bicycle helmet.
