Deputies: Victim dies after DUII hit-and-run crash

CORBETT, Ore. – A Sandy, Ore. man died Saturday night after his motorcycle was hit by a drunk driver, a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
It happened just before 8 p.m. on SE Gordon Creek Road in rural southeast Multnomah County.
Gar Riggs, 60, was driving his motorcycle when a pickup truck crossed the road’s center line and hit him head-on, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Derrick Peterson. The driver, 42-year-old Brian Leymaster, initially left the scene of the crash, but was arrested later by sheriff’s deputies, dispatch told KATU News.
Riggs died from his injuries.
Leymaster was taken to the Multnomah County Jail where he faces the following charges:
• Manslaughter (1st degree)
• Criminally negligent homicide
• Felony hit and run
• Driving under the influence of intoxicants
• Reckless driving
Southeast Gordon Creek Road was closed for 4 hours during the investigation.
You can't legislate morality. DUII's are already illegal, but they can't catch them all. More money for patrols would help but all they do is cut that money.Â
So when are you going to toughen laws like Tobacco and start eliminating DUI;s??????
@Steven Manson I find nowhere in the article that says anything about tobacco. BTW, how would outlawing tobacco eliminate dui's? I know that many, but not all, people smoke when they drink but the statement about "toughen laws like Tobacco and start eliminating DUI;s" (sic) makes no sense what-so-ever.
