'You think your dog is safe in your backyard'
EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene teen says someone broke the latch to her gate and stole her two dogs Wednesday in broad daylight.
Lindzee Prasch, 19, told KVAL News she let her dogs out the back door to go to the bathroom, and when she came back to check on them five minutes later they were gone.
"Somebody purposely let them out, and shut the gate, and that's why I feel like somebody took them," said Prasch in her backyard on Friday.
She said the latch to the wooden fence - which was reinforced with plywood - had been ripped off.
Prasch immediately reported the dogs missing to the 1st Avenue Animal Shelter in west Eugene and called the Eugene Police Department.
Bentley is a one a half-year-old Pug Terrier mix Bentley and Diesel is a three and a half-month-old blue nose Pit Bull puppy.
"You think your dog is safe in your backyard," said Prasch. "Well, it's not anymore. You need to be more careful."
Eugene Police is investigating the property on Elmira Drive in west Eugene for possible criminal mischief.
Greenhill Humane Society communication manager Sasha Elliott said there are steps people like Prasch can take to help get stolen, missing and abandoned dogs back to their owners.
The first step is to report the missing animal to the 1st Avenue Animal Shelter at, located at 3970 W. 1st Avenue, by calling (541) 844-1777. If you believe a crime has been committed, Eugene Police said to call the non emergency line.
After notifying the proper authorities, Prasch said there is still more that can be done.
"First talk to neighbors in your area," said Elliott at Greenhill Humane Society on Friday. "See if anyone has seen your animals. Create flyers and post them around town as well, and then also check on Craigslist. You can post a missing animal ad as well as check other ads from people who have found animals."

Vetzero- I appreciate your concern for my daughter having lost her puppies. Nevertheless we have not given up hope of the puppies coming home. My daughter does not have crackhead friends that she showed the dogs too, her neighbors may be a different story. At this point we just want the puppies back and have offered a hefty reward and prob more than someone is going to get off the street for selling the pups. More than criminal charges we want the puppies back. The police have been helpful and compassionate to both my daughter and I throughout this time. Lindzee and Tyler always watched their dogs and were rarely away from them for more than 5 minutes. Their backyard was reinforced and safe for the dogs. We just want them returned.
This should not be surprising. Meth addicts and other assorted scum steal particular kinds of dogs to sell for, drugs. The pit bull will bring a hefty sum to some rotten dispicable being that masqarades as a human being. It sickens me to see this happen. The police will never catch who did it, they do real well if they can catch a cold. What they do best is write traffic tickets and take reports. Don't expect much from them here in Eugene because they don't have much to offer but paperwork for you to fill out along with those long faces. And if they somehow got a miracle and nab the rotten S.O.B. they won't be able to hold 'it' for charges and a trial. They're letting these puke excuses for humans out everyday...and nobody gives a tinker's darn what you lost or who or 'what' did this.Â
I care, but I can do you no good either.
Your home was cased, dear. You were targeted and a plan was executed to take both of them. It's probably some 'thing'Â you know that you showed the dogs to. One of your addict friends for instance, some 'filth' you know from school.
They're gone and there is nothing anyone can do about it.....and these criminals know it.
I am SO outa here at or before April.. What a pathetic, sorry place to live. Eugene has turned into some kind of 'Barter-Town' in the Mad-Max movie....criminals run things here.
So sorry to see this happen to you dear, really am. Looking at your picture I can see your hurt and upset. Just know that I am too. I really hope you can get those two dogs replaced and if you do ?...this time...choose pets that criminals don't want because they won't get the price they're looking for. When you get a new pet, watch them, you just have to.
I am SO outa here...gonna transplant, buy a gun and start carrying it. Â
