Dogs (and their owners) celebrate 'Howloween'

EUGENE, Ore. - Dozens of dogs got into the Halloween spirit on Sunday by getting into costume.

Greenhil Humane Society helds its annual pet costume contest at the 5th Street Public Market.

The event brought out several furry princesses, a pumpkin and even Robin Hood.
The costume contest awarded winners for best ensemble, best trick and best original costume.

The dogs were able to strut their stuff in a parade around the market.

Some of the owners joined in on the fun, too.

Shannon and Steve Kell got the family and pet in costume.

"We wanted to do something that could integrate the whole family so we had to think about group costumes and ensemble ideas," Steve Kell said. "Goldilocks and the three bears is what fit."

Greenhill said the event is a chance to raise awareness about pet adoption. The shelter has cut adoption fees in half through Oct. 31.
