Dogs found shot on C. Oregon ranch
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) - Three Great Pyrenees dogs used to protect sheep that graze in rugged terrain have been fatally shot east of Prineville while they were on their owner's property.
KTVZ-TV reports that investigators say the people involved in the shooting have been identified and the Crook County sheriff's office has been in contact with the dog's owner.
The district attorney's office reportedly is reviewing the sheriff's investigation.
The shooting happened last week.
KTVZ says the dogs belonged to Gordon Clark of Hay Creek Ranch in Madras.
Sheriff's deputies say two other big dogs belonging to Hay Creek Ranch are missing.
Donald McCallum of Hay Creek Ranch says a sheepherder who was with the flock called to report the three dogs had been shot.
What kind of evil kills such a beautiful dog? I hope they let the rancher neuter them for it.
If those dogs had thumbs and rifles they could have shot back. Â The Great Pyenee is a smart dog. Â They are classified as working/guardian dogs. Â They are white. Â They lay down with the sheep blending in so predators think they have an easy meal. Hope they catch this peabrain.
Sounds like this rancer needs to do a little hunting himself. The herder was probably lucky, be careful.Â
