Donors try to Stuff the Bus with FOOD For Lane County

EUGENE, Ore. --  The 17th Annual Stuff the Bus Challenge is going on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17.

The event gathers donations in a bus that support support FOOD for Lane County, the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots, and over 60 local service organizations.

Officials said that they have a critical need for nutritional and high-protein items. They are looking for peanut butter, tuna, chili, soup and beans to help fulfill that need.

Food Source Developer Alicia Hines said that 30% of children in Oregon are hungry.

"What that actually looks like here ... in Lane County on the whole, 53 percent of our kids are getting free or reduced meals at school. So there is definitely a need." Hines said.

Hines told KVAL that she hopes to collect a few thousand pounds of food. The Toys for Tots organization is also collecting  toys on the buses.

Starting at 6 a.m. Friday, November 11, and continuing Saturday, November 12, KDUK staff will attempt to fill a 60-foot LTD bus with high-quality food items and new, unwrapped toys.

Here's where you can find the bus:
