Doolittles Raid
This photo provided by Maj. Thomas Griffin shows Griffin as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 when he was a navigator on one of the B-25B Mitchell bombers used in Doolittle's raid on Japan in World War II. Coming just four months after the Imperial Japanese Navy savaged the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, the Doolittle raid on Japan's home did little damage, but lifted the spirits of Americans and electrified a world at war.
