A tire blowout caused a truck to come to a stop facing the wrong way on Interstate 5

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A Drain woman was seriously injured in a crash on I-5 Tuesday night north of Sutherlin.

At about 8:50 p.m., state police say Joseph Reitmeier, 30, of Medford, was driving a 1985 Dodge pickup northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 138, when the right rear tire blew out.

Officials say that caused the pickup to spin into the center concrete divider.

After coming to a stop facing southbound in the northbound lane, state police say his pickup was struck nearly head-on by a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Christina Daniels, 40, of Drain.

Authorities say Daniels was seriously injured in the crash, and was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

Reitmeier didn't require medical treatment, police said.

The northbound lanes were closed for about two hours while the crash was investigated.
