Driver killed in head-on crash with semi

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - A California woman died when her pickup collided head-on with a semi truck Tuesday night on Highway 97, just north of the Oregon/California border.
Her teen daughter survived. The trucker was not injured.
The crash happened just after 7:05 p.m., about 4 miles north of the border, Oregon State Police said.
Shirley L. Williford, 59, was southbound on Hwy 97 when her 1993 Nissan pickup collided head-on with an oncoming 2002 Peterbilt truck driven by Robert D. Parenteau, 51, from Hollister, Calif.
Williford died at the scene.
Her daughter, Sara Yeager, 15, was taken by amublance to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. She and her mother were using safety restraints, as was Parenteau, who was not injured.
Troopers said speed and icy conditions contributed to the crash but did not specify which vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic.
